The Tokai Gakki Chromaharp (often branded as an autoharp) is a Japanese-made chord zither produced by Tokai Gakki Manufacturing Co., Ltd., best known for its guitars but also active in folk and classroom instruments. Built mainly from the 1960s–1970s onward. This Chromaharp features 15 chord bars over 36 strings, allowing players to strum full chords with simple button presses.
They’re valued for their solid Japanese build quality, warm, resonant tone, and durability, sitting in the same general family as American autoharps but with a slightly lighter, more “lively” acoustic character. Today they’re most often found as vintage instruments appreciated by collectors, folk players, and beginners alike.
